Richter Case Study Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words

Richter - Case Study Example The subsequent change in the political landscape meant that Richter’s market was largely restricted to the countries behind the Iron Curtain and it was only with the breakup of Russia into the newly created CIS states that it has been able to extend its reach to the Western nations and indeed, the rest of the world. Richter has been known for its work in the areas of oral contraception, cerebral oxygenation enhancers and products dealing with schizophrenia. Its success in creating generic drugs as well as APIs for other generic companies has enabled it to expand operations and production, storage and distribution facilities in Poland and Russia. However, the expansion has been putting increasing demands and pressures on the available IT infrastructure, IT support and IT project development teams as well as the direct reports for the affiliate businesses. The company’s CIO, Vince Szucs is faced with bringing up the need for changes in the customary June meeting with seni or management that addresses the IT plan and budget for the year. At the same time, the CIO is concerned that the changes should not result in the cost of IT exceeding 1.5 percent of sales for the company. Of course all decisions for the IT plan and initiatives should be considered in the context of the firms strategy, technological infrastructure and existing business systems such as the SAP R/3 modules already implemented in the company. The IT plans to be presented and initiatives that need to be considered by the CIO and senior management will undoubtedly depend on the value that the company attaches to its present MIS under SAP/R3. Any budgeting process in a large organization like Richter would be a selling and negotiation process for resource allocations from the budget that was created out of sales and profits. In any large organization, departments usually compete for resources on the basis of their performance and established needs. It is up to the CIO

Argument-driven analysis of the essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Argument-driven analysis of the - Essay Example The author has not dealt with the issue at hand in a precise and comprehensive manner, which may easily confuse many readers. This paper will explore an all rounded approach to globalization from the main critical angles which best explain the subject in discussion. The views expressed by the author on globalization suggest absence of any wrong in the presentation of certain practice or object. The blame is set rather on the problem that is the perception of the object. The example of the coffee house and snack shop given by the author does not put blame on the coffee house or the shops, but the reception in different places. It is true in many instances, and people should not blame, Americanization but instead the people ought to change their approach towards such ventures. On the flip side of the above, borrowed cultures are a reality in the current times. It openly means that globalization is responsible for the erosion of some values of other cultures due to the embracing of the Western culture. Jeffrey N. Wasserstrom reasons for failure in the campaign to popularize Disney’s character Mickey Mouse cannot be solely blamed on the way globalization is perceived in different parts of the world. The timing of the animation giant to introduce a character in China was wrong hence the failure of the brand. Jeffrey clearly states presences of a health campaign to get rid of â€Å"laoshu† a Chinese name for a rat (Wasserstrom, 22). The violence received on â€Å"Mi Lushorue† was due to the campaign against rats in China. Wasserstrom fails to present the good side of globalization but concentrates mostly on the failed parts of brands that he relates to globalization. It is important in any analysis not to take sides in presenting your views but to work towards the reader getting the silent voice in the paper that states your position. There are protests in the streets in India with people fearing for their jobs. The above is just one

Television and Media - Black Entertainment Television :: Exploratory Essays Research Papers

The Road of Black Entertainment Television The media is all around us, influencing most of our thoughts and buying habits. Most of the media bases its shows towards many diverse demographics as to bring in the most viewers to watch commercials between the show content. But some of the channels are demographic specific advertising directly to a single group in hopes of banking the entire future of a network on that single group. One channel has been extremely successful in this risky business venture, BET. BET stands for "Black Entertainment Television". If not all, then at least 75% of all commercials are made up of an all black cast. Many of these commercials follow the same exact script as others with an all white or mixed cast. Companies are doing a very smart thing in doing this duel advertising for all other networks and channels and BET. Historically and culturally, the majority of blacks support black businesses. The slight perception that a company is black friendly will earn that company several millions of dollars more in profits. Denny's long had the national perception to blacks across the nation as being racist when it came to being seated, the time to get an order placed after being seated, and the time to get the order after it was placed. Several civil rights leaders urged all blacks to boycott Denny's. After Denny's claimed that it was never and had never practiced racist tactics, Denny's produced a new commercial, one that featured an all black cast and it was run on BET. There haven't been any more complaints since. BET had probably played a large part of dissuading the racist views that were perceived during the time before the commercial had aired. BET also markets some shows directly to the black audience, especially their main target, the black male middle-middle class to the low-middle class. "Comic View" is a nightly stand-up comedy show that features black comics. Sometimes there is another minority on stage (Asian, Hispanic, etc.) but the majority of the time there are black comics on stage.

Oedipus Who’s fault was it? Essay

Who’s Fault Was It? If one were to look for an individual to blame in the tale of Oedipus many characters would stand out. Assigning fault on Just one character of this story would be challenging since almost every character is trying to cheat fate. If there was really one character that could have prevented all this tragic Father killing and Mother â€Å"loving† who would it be? The story spirals on in a whirlwind of destiny with each step taken by all characters to avoid an impending fate and leading to an even more imminent and closer step to the final tragic outcome. One could look to the beginning, the exact point where King Laois seeks an audience with the Oracle of Delphi to learn his future. The question to ask is if the oracles prophecy had never been spoken would the chain of events have taken place causing King Laios to fear his own son and send him away to die. Laois being so curious of his destiny could have avoided his own death had he not learned the prophecy and tried so hard to avoid it. If Oedipus had been raised by his biological parents the probability that he would ave killed his father and marry his mother might have decreased. When taken away to be destroyed the herdsman responsible for leaving baby Oedipus to the elemenst did not have the resolution to complete the task. Instead he gave Oedipus toa messenger in the hopes that he would take the infant to a faraway land and no one would ever know that Oedipus had not perished as ordered. If Oedipus had died as an infant then the prophecy would never come true and Laios’s death would have been prevented. Oedipus was received by a childless King and Queen to raise as heir own. King Polybus and Queen Merope loved Oedipus very much and did not tell him that he was not their biological child. Rumors did circulate about Oedipus’s true parentage so he decided to visit the oracle and learn the truth. Instead of hearing that his parents were not truly his he learned that he would kill his father and marry his mother. The oracle did not mention that Polybus and Merope were not his biological parents so in fear of the foretold prophecy Oedipus flees from his home and travels far away in hopes of avoiding his proclaimed fate. Upon fleeing from his home to evade such a gruesome outcome, Oedipus meets a group of men at a crossroads. The carriage driver tries to push Oedipus off the road. In a rage most likely exasperated by the news of his learned prophecy Oedipus kill most of the men in the caravan. Unbeknownst to him he had Just completed the first part of his prophecy. He had killed his biological father King Laois. In an attempt to sidestep fate Oedipus actually makes it come true. When Oedipus arrives at Thebes he defeats the riddle of the Sphinx there in saving the city. This makes Oedipus a hero and by becoming the savior of the city he ends up marrying Jokosta, a newly widowed Queen. It makes sense that a city without a King would wish that their new hero would become their new leader. Oedipus doesn’t realize that he has Just married his biological mother. He lives for years with her thinking he has successfully avoided the prophecy yet in reality ne nas completed the prophecy by marring his own mother and killing his father. Many aspects happened in this story that causes

A Comparative Study of Two Shampoo Brands Based on General Consumer-Related Qualities

A blind comparison of two brand-name shampoos was performed using two selected subjects that have been pre-determined to be willing to participate in the study.   The brand-name shampoos included in this investigation were ClairolTM Herbal Essences and Tresemmà © TM.Each shampoo brand was used daily by the participant for an entire week.   Overall evaluation of each shampoo brand was performed through the completion of a questionnaire.Shampoo quality scores were determined to be higher for Clairol TM Herbal Essences than for Tresemmà © TM.   In addition, the participants’ response rate to the Clairol TM was faster than Tresemmà ©TM, suggesting the Clairol TM Herbal Essences is a better shampoo brand.IntroductionHair quality and appearance has long been considered as a major factor in personal appearance.   In both men and women, several aspects of hair maintenance are given substantial attention, including style, color, shampoo, conditioner, treatments and accessori es such as gels, spritzes and sprays. There is a continuous increase in the number of brands of shampoos, and the consumer is generally overwhelmed and confused with which brand or even type of shampoo would be most beneficial to their personal hair care needs.Such settings warrant the comparative study of specific brands and types of shampoos for the benefit and understanding of the public consumer (Rapaport, 1981; Rigopoulous et al., 2007).This study aims to compare two shampoo brands that are commonly found in the local pharmacy or grocery, and determine which brand provides a greater hair improvement as well as better hair maintenance.Materials and methodsTwo brand-name shampoos were selected for inclusion in this comparative investigation:   Clairol TM Herbal Essences and Tresemmà © TM.   Two subjects who previously gave their consent to participate in this investigation were given an unlabeled bottle of shampoo that contained either Clairol TM Herbal Essences or Tresemmà ©TM.Such blind setting was designed to avoid bias among the participants.   The subjects were asked to complete a questionnaire (Appendix A) upon handing out the shampoo, and were also asked to use the shampoo daily for an entire week.At the end of the week, the participants were asked to complete a second questionnaire (Appendix B).   Each question had an equivalent score of 10 points and the total score of 100 points can be calculated for each brand of shampoo.ResultsEvaluation of responses of each participant was evaluated and the total score was determined for each brand-name shampoo.   Clairol TM Herbal Essences received a higher total score than Tresemmà ©TM, suggesting that Clairol TM Herbal Essences was a better brand-name shampoo to the consumer based on the shampoo qualitites enumerated in the questionnaire. It was also determined that ClairolTM Herbal Essences showed a faster improvement rate than Tresemmà ©TM, wherein the participants hair quality improved upon on e application of the shampoo.DiscussionHair maintenance has been an important factor in the personal hygiene of every individual (Trueb and the Swiss Trichology Study Group, 2001).   Several factors have been determined to play key roles in successful hair maintenance, including haircuts and styling, washing and conditioning, as well as hair dying and curling (Trueb, 2007).There are currently a huge number of shampoo brands out in the market, and the consumer is generally overwhelmed and confused in terms of choice of the best brand for their personal use.   This study aimed to compare two brands of shampoos that are commonly sold at local pharmacies and groceries.Using a blind study of brand-name shampoos and two participants, we were able to compare the qualities of Clairol TM Herbal Essences and Tresemmà ©TM, including consumer satisfaction, sudsing and hair softness. It has been shown that ClairolTM Herbal Essences remains to be a consumer’s choice, based on the total overall score shown in the evaluation of the questionnaire completed by the participants after one week of usage of the shampoo. This study has also shows that it is possible to compare a specific brand of shampoo with another brand using a short-term exposure treatment.   However, the study also shows some limitations because the study population is very small and the treatment time was too short. This investigative tool may serve as a model for future large-scale and prolonged-treatment investigations.ReferencesRapaport M (1981):   A randomized, controlled clinical trial of four anti-dandruff shampoos.   J. Dave Hockney essays

Dave Hockney essays Dave Hockney is often regarded as one of the most influential artists for the twentieth century, whose imagination is not limited to photography but primarily as a painter, draftsman and set designer. Born July 9th 1937, Hockneys interest in art was evident from a very early age, and he pursued this interest despite contempt from those otherwise inclined. Hockneys mother, Laura, held education of high importance and attempted to give her son the best schooling opportunities possible. Hockney was a bright student, but eventually became disinterested in his general studies in favour of his creative pursuits. In 1953, Hockney enrolled in the Bradford School of Art, and this was where he began painting with oils, his medium of choice for most of his life. He became more aware of his role as an artist, and realised that a process of seeing and thinking rather than simply imitation was vital for successful artwork. His work was abstract and became quite personal, reflecting his view of human sexuality and love. His commencement of education as the Painting School of the Royal College in London was a significant point in Hockneys life that enabled him to gain national attention as an artist. To begin with his work was still largely abstract, but upon feeling dissatisfied with this work, Hockney began to focus more on the need for a meaningful subject matter through his work. He initially explored painting issues such as vegetarianism and poetic expression, before eventuating to the topic of his sexual orientation, a feature that is present in much of his later work. Hockneys experiences as a homosexual male during this time period provided a basis for much of his work, and the social life that he lived enabled his contact with other admired artists including Andy Warhol. Hockney eventually relocated to America, with the main interest to pursue his fascination with the Californian way of life. He wa...

Eusmilus - Facts and Figures

Eusmilus - Facts and Figures Name: Eusmilus (Greek for early saber); pronounced you-SMILE-us Habitat: Plains of North America and western Europe Historical Epoch: Early Oligocene (30 million years ago) Size and Weight: About six feet long and 200-300 pounds Diet: Meat Distinguishing Characteristics: Six-inch-long canines; weak jaw muscles About Eusmilus Even though its technically classified as a false saber-toothed cat, Eusmilus had truly gigantic canines for its size, which at six inches or so were almost as long as its entire skull (when they werent in use, this cat kept its big teeth cozy and warm in specially adapted pouches on its lower jaw, a trait it shared with the distantly related Thylacosmilus). However, Eusmilus also had comparatively weak jaw muscleswith its huge canines, it didnt need to inflict a powerful biteand it was strangely lacking in supplementary teeth, sporting a relatively paltry two dozen or so. What this indicates is that Eusmilus hunted in traditional saber-tooth style, lying in wait in the low branches of trees, jumping and digging its lethal canines into unsuspecting prey, and then idling its time as its dinner bled to death. Technically, Eusmilus is classified as a nimravid cat, meaning it was closely related to the contemporary Nimravuswith which it competed for prey in early Oligocene Europe and North America, along with yet a third nimravid, Hoplophoneus. In case youre wondering how all of these big-toothed cats could have hunted for megafauna mammals without getting in each others way, the fact is that they didnt: one Nimravus skull bears tooth marks that exactly match the size and shape of Eusmilus canines (however, this particular individual healed from its wounds and lived to hunt another day). We even have evidence for cannibalism, or at least intra-species combat, among saber-toothed cats: another identified Nimravus skull is embedded with the canines of a fellow pack member!

Marketing Research Report Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3500 words

Marketing Research Report - Assignment Example Even though social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, MySpace take a large chunk of the student’s time, it helps in developing social skills and helps in knowledge and information sharing (Martin, 2008). However, according to Oberst, (2010) it has also been found out that high use of social media sites encourage negative feelings and behaviours among students and teenagers and result in negative behaviours such as procrastination, because they are always catching up with friends and they are more likely to be engaged in drugs and drinking. The purpose of this study will be to find out how the students are spending their time on these social networking sites. The study will also aim to find out how the use of these social sites are affecting the overall performance of students and what is the opinion of students on spending time on these social networking sites, especially face book. Problem Statement Facebook is one of the most popular social media sites which are used by the young population, especially students and teenagers, all over the world (Gerlich et al, 2011). With the ever increasing of the popularity of social media sites and students spending more and more time in Facebook, it has been regarded as the topmost reason for diverting the attention of students from academic work. The purpose of this study will be to find out how the students are spending their time on Facebook. The study will also aim to find out how the use of Facebook is affecting the overall performance of students and their opinion about spending time on Facebook. For the purpose of the study, research will be conducted among students of a university to find out their usage patterns opinion about Facebook. Literature Review There have been recent considerable discussions on the frequent use of social media tools such as Facebook, twitter, MySpace etc. by college and university students and the possible effect of these social media tools on the academic performances of these students (Connolly, 2011). E- Learning is a critical tool for learners, especially students. This medium of leaning has evolved with the growing number of its applications. Now young people use internet as a source of distributing information through social media sites. Connecting with people through social media sites started as a niche activity, but now it has become a phenomenon. Apart from being used for blogging, chatting and creating communities, these social media sites are used by many institutions to form online communities and groups. It was started as a hobby for some people but now it has become a compulsory social norm and a part of the daily life of people all over the world (Boyd, 2007). Young adults and teena gers are the special enthusiasts and they have found it a major medium to connect with their peers, reinvent their personalities, share information, and socialize. Since the current college

The Pluralist framework of industrial Relations in the UK has been Essay

The Pluralist framework of industrial Relations in the UK has been replaced with HR management Discuss - Essay Example Over the years, this relationship has gradually improved and become highly developed in response to conditions and terms of employment. Among scholars and practitioners of labour issues, there have been arguments regarding industrial relations (IR) and Human Resources (HR) management. The debates have been centred on whether pluralist framework of IR has been replaced with HR management or not. According to Salmon (2000), IR is a multidisciplinary field that studies the relationship of employment in both employment situations and in the unionized workforce. On the other hand, HR management refers to an organizational function that concentrates on recruitment, management, and providing direction to employees in a given organization (Armstrong, 2006). The pluralist framework is a system of managing industrial/ employee relations, which determines the employment relationship and resolves conflict through the institution of trade union recognition and the process of collective bargaining at enterprise, industry, and national level. On the other hand, HR management is a strategic and integrated approach to the management of people. HR management is about employees’ management. Recent evidence about HRM application suggests that there is a decline in the collective aspects of the employment relationship in favour of individualism.
